Republic Day Speech – 26 January Speech In English
Good morning to respected teachers and my dear colleagues,
Today is Republic Day and I wish you all a very happy day. All of us have gathered today to celebrate Republic Day. Republic Day is celebrated every year on 26 January because the Constitution of our country was implemented on this day. On 26 January 1950, our country India became a republic. The best part of this day is that people of all castes and classes celebrate it together. The Constitution of India is a written constitution. It took 2 years, 11 months and 18 days to form our Constitution.
The Indian Constitution is the largest written constitution in the world. On 26 January 1950, Dr. Rajendra Prasad was sworn in as the first President of India in the Durbar Hall of Government House. President Sukarno of Indonesia was the chief guest of India’s first Republic Day. Ganatantra (gana + tantra) means rule by the people for the people. It is very important to remember the freedom fighters on this day, Due to them, we are all free today.
The great leaders and freedom fighters of our country, Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Lala Lajpat Rai, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Lal Bahadur Shastri and countless patriots, fought the British rule and sacrificed their lives and gave us freedom.
These people fought continuously against the British to make India an independent country. We cannot forget the contribution of all these freedom fighters. The tricolor is hoisted at Rajpath on the occasion of Republic Day. Then the national anthem is sung and a 21-gun salute occurs. Important honors like Ashoka Chakra and Kirti Chakra are given on the occasion of Republic Day. After this our army performs its power demonstration and parade march.
The parade consists of contingents of the three Indian Army – the Navy, the Army and the Air Force. A variety of tableaux are displayed in the parade which entertains people. Our first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad had said, “We have found the authority of our entire great and vast country in one Constitution and Union.” Who takes responsibility for the welfare of all men and women living in the country.
It is a matter of shame that even after so many years of independence, we are fighting the problems of crime, corruption and violence today. Now the time has come that we have to come together and throw out these evils from our country as if the freedom fighter leaders had expelled the British from our country.
We must make our India country a successful, developed and clean country. We have to understand things like poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, global warming, inequality, etc. of our Indian country and solve them. Let us all take a pledge that we will maintain the unity and integrity of the country in this way and will contribute immensely to the development of the country.
With this I would like to stop my speech. Thank you all for listening to my speech. Jai Hind..
